Bangalore Express Franklin Park Review |
Bangalore Express Review: Nice Indian Quickie on Rt 27
Hey, we are no strangers to Bangalore Express.
The place is conveniently located on Route 27 (behind TD Bank) in Franklin Park, New Jersey and ideal for a quick Indian snack.
The other day after a visit to the nearby Patel Brothers Indian grocery store on RT-27 in Ryan Plaza, we felt a sudden urge to eat a Masala Dosa and some Bisi Bella Bath. We made a quick right-turn into the Bangalore Express complex.
Bangalore Express is a small hole-in-the-wall place. If you are looking for a fancy sit down restaurant then Bangalore Express is not for you. You walk up to the cash counter pick up a paper menu, place your order, make the payment and wait at a table for your food to arrive in disposable plates.
Being famished, we quickly placed our order. An elderly Indian waiter brought a jug of water, glasses and placed plastic spoons and forks on top of a bunch of napkins.
Our order included Idli Vada combo ($3.49), Bisi Bella Bath ($6.49) and Masala Dosa ($4.99).
Our Idli Vada combo order (one piece each) arrived within six minutes followed by the Masala Dosa and Bisi Bella Bath.
Soft Idli, Crisp Vada
Idli Vada Combo came to the table piping hot accompanied by Sambar, Green Chutney and Coconut Chutney.
Idli was soft and fluffy and Vada was crisp and evenly cooked.
Green Chutney and Coconut Chutney were flavorful but cold. We would have enjoyed the Banaglore Express Chutneys more had they not been cold.
The medium-thick Onion, Tomato and Italian Green Squash vegetable Sambar was slightly sweetish. Though not great, Sambar was not a bad deal overall.
Nice Idli, Crisp Vada and Masala Dosa
Big Masala Dosa
As we were polishing off our Idli-Vada Combo, the Masala Dosa arrived.
The Masala Dosa was huge, hot and crisp. The Potato filling inside the Dosa was also piping hot but a wee-bit salty.
Masala Dosa came with Green Chutney, Coconut Chutney and the Sweetish Tomato, Onion, Italian Green Squash vegetable Sambar.
Yummy Bisi Bella Bath
Soon, it was time for Bisi Bella Bath. Bisi Bella Bath was piping hot and had a strong clove/cinnammon flavor.
Bisi Bella Bath came with a crisp Pappadum, Green and Coconut Chutneys. It included Carrot, Green Peas and French Beans vegetables.
While we found the Bangalore Express Bisi Bella Bath to be a flavorful rice dish, we were a little disappointed as it was not the authentic Bangalore version. You see Bisi Bella Bath usually includes a good amount of vegetables not the tiny portion that we encountered in the Bangalore Express version. Also authentic Bisi Bella Bath is usually served with Boondi mixture and Onion/Tomato Raita.
Finally, the serving size of the Bisi Bella Bath was small for the price ($6.49).
Bangalore Express Rating
Notwithstanding our little disappointments with Bisi Bella Bath and Sambar we would defintely revisit Bangalore Express when we are in the area.
