Masti Indian Grill Restaurant Review
Masti Indian Grill
Reviewer's Summary: Bland Food; OK Service

Masti Indian Grill is yet another Indian restaurant in New Jersey that takes the name of India in vain.

Our recent meal at this East Windsor, New Jersey Indian restaurant turned out to be a mighty disappointment.

Much of the food at Masti, located in a small strip mall on Rt 130S in East Windsor, was very bland, not the spicy Indian fare one'd expect from an Indian restaurant.

Vegetarian or non-vegetarian, our dining experience at Masti Indian Grill was that the spice-level in the food had been dumbed down to suit timid American palates.

As a result, Americans won't get a chance to taste real Indian cuisine while Indians are bound to feel terribly letdown over the blandness of the food.

Chicken Xacuti (described on the menu as chicken cooked in spicy roasted coconut gravy) was awful and tasted like a few Chicken pieces had been hastily thrown into a pot of plain Dal.

Paneer Jalfrezi and Vegetable Adraki (vegetables in ginger tomato sauce) were insultingly bad. Devoid of any taste or the rich flavor you expect from Indian cuisine, they were unworthy of any reputable kitchen.

Cothimir Vadi (a kind of fritter) was crisp but totally tasteless.
Rajma Masala was alright but nothing to write home about.

Chicken Seekh Kabab was one of the few tasty items from our drab meal. Small juicy and tasty pieces of meat that melted in our mouth, Masti's Chicken Seekh Kababs are a treat.

The Garlic Naan did not give us much joy. What irritated us was that the Garlic Naan was not cooked well in the middle.

Masala Tea was another disgrace with none of the fine flavor of the spices you get from traditional Indian Masala Tea. We doubt that any spices had even been added to it because it tasted just like a cup of ordinary, strong tea.

Besides the Chicken Seekh Kababs, the other saving grace of Masti Indian Grill were its desserts.

Pistachio Kulfi ($3.25) was one of the few delights of our forgettable meal at Masti Indian Grill although we were a bit letdown by the small portion.

Rice Pudding was not bad although the rice was too thick and didn't seem to be of good quality.

Our waiter was prompt and courteous although he seemed slightly eager for us to finish. Perhaps, it was near closing time for the restaurant and time for his siesta.

Given the overall bland quality of much of the food at Masti Indian Grill in East Windsor (New Jersey), it seems unlikely that we'll be paying a return visit anytime soon to this so-called Indian restaurant.
