Palace of Asia Cherry Hill Review: Awful Indian Food; Lousy Service

We did not dare step into the kitchen of Palace of Asia's Cherry Hill outpost in New Jersey. But if we had, we wouldn't have been surprised to see chimps manning the stoves in the kitchen.

You see, Palace of Asia (on Rt 70 in Cherry Hill) is not a real Indian restaurant though it claims to be one.

Au contraire, Palace of Asia Cherry Hill is a depressingly disgusting dump where the food alternates between inedible and unpalatable.

With few exceptions, the food at this pathetic Indian restaurant (located in the America's Best Value Inn motel) brought tears to our eyes. Yikes, the food is not just bad at Palace of Asia but revoltingly bad.

Palace of Asia Cherry Hill - Horrid Garlic Naan
Steer clear of the Garlic Naan at this so-called Indian restaurant. One of the worst Garlic Naans we've had in recent memory, we wondered if the bozo in the kitchen was under the delusion that he/she/it was making Pappadum because the Garlic Naan that landed on our table was so thin and brittle. The regular Naan was infinitely better.

Palace of Asia - Salty Medhu Vada, Tasteless Entrees
Vegetarian or non-vegetarian, South Indian or North Indian, appetizers or main course, Palace of Asia Cherry Hill does not let any opportunity pass by in displaying its contempt for diners.

Medhu Vada (a popular South Indian fried snack) was far too salty and the accompanying Sambar way too sour. And the Sambar was much too watery to even deserve to be called Sambar.

Chicken Tikka Masala was a horrible red monstrosity that tasted as if the Shani (devil) himself had prepared it. Hard chicken pieces in an utterly tasteless viscous sauce made a mockery of this popular item.

Gobi Spinach gave new meaning to the word bland while the Lamb Roganjosh with its horrid tasting gravy was a stunning act of cruelty to diners.

Clearly, Palace of Asia Cherry Hill was relentless in its merciless onslaught on our suffering tastebuds.

Take the Navratan Korma - this favorite of ours was a sweet disaster that it seemed as if a spiteful chef had added a ton of sugar to this vegetarian delicacy.

Plain Dal with its slight Garlic flavor was one of the rare palatable exceptions of our unedifying meal. But such pleasures were few and far between at Palace of Asia Cherry Hill.

Let's not even go to the watery and tasteless Mutter Paneer or the run of the mill Tandoori Chicken that was not worth a second bite.

Palace of Asia Cherry Hill - Bad Desserts
In sheer frustration, we sought solace in desserts only to be rebuffed yet again.

Gulab Jamun (milk and cheeseballs dipped in syrup) is a most common Indian dessert across India.

But to the incompetent clowns at Palace of Asia Cherry Hill, Gulab Jamun must have been the most difficult item to master because the cheeseballs on our table were only partially cooked inside and the syrup was obscenely sweet.

As for the Rice Pudding at Palace of Asia Cherry Hill, it was the worst we've ever had in several decades of eating this dessert because it was not in the least bit sweet. Perhaps, there was no sugar left because all of it had gone into the Gulab Jamun and Navratan Korma.

Palace of Asia - Poor Service
The waiters at Palace of Asia were completely foreign to the notion of service and some had difficulty understanding basic English. One of them just couldn't understand that we wanted to order Garlic Naan and looked at us like a deer caught in the headlights.

The saving grace was that this bozo had the sense to send another waiter, who appeared a couple of minutes later. When we repeated our order for Garlic Naan, this bespectacled waiter yelled at us - You'll have to pay more.

There were other service snafus too. Like one of the waiters asking us if we wanted more bread when we were eating our desserts! And our dessert cups were removed without checking with us.

By the way, if you are heading to Palace of Asia Cherry Hill be sure to take some laxative for the poor employees at the restaurant because every single one we encountered had a miserable, constipated look.

We made the unwitting mistake of going to Palace of Asia in Cherry Hill because of the fine experience we had at Palace at the Ben in Philadelphia.

Alas, the Palace of Asia Cherry Hill is an ugly step-sister of its Philadelphia sibling.

Palace of Asia Cherry Hill should more aptly be called Torture of India because this dumpster is an ugly stain on the name of Indian cuisine. - © NJIndia.us
